JET SKI TITLE IN OWNERS NAME FROM 3 BUYERS AGO?
My husband bought a jet ski here in Texas from a private seller. The title was in the previous owners name i.e.(the person the seller bought it from)… My husband decided he wanted a different toy and decided to sell the jet ski after a few weeks and never using it or transferring the title out of the previous owners name from 2 sells before. Now the guy that bought the jet ski went to the transfer office and told them that the title is not in the persons name (my husband) that he bought it from. They wont put the title in the guys name that bought it now he is demanding his money back or he is calling the cops… What can this guy do by contacting the police over this. He bought the jet ski AS-IS and got a title and transfer paperwork signed by the seller from 2 sells ago…
I have a bill of sale from the previous owner that my husband bought it from stating the date he bought it and then that date my husband sold it was 2 weeks later. That doesnt help does it?
The law is very clear on the time requirement to complete the transfer when you buy a vehicle or water craft. If he goes to the cops your hubby can be slapped with a substantial fine for failure to complete the transfer. They will also probably go after the person he bought it from who also didn’t transfer it. You each owe the great state of Texas sales tax, transfer fees and registration fees for that Jet Ski.
