what is the best place to go sking in the South Island of New Zealand for intermediate skiers?
We are staying at Queenstown and could go to any of the 4 major resorts near there. Also, does anyone have any experience with glacier skiing in New Zealand. How advanced a skier does one need to be?
If you want value for money, forget the big commercial skifields and look at some of the smaller club fields. You will need to get away from Queenstown, but many of the fields have excellent acomodation right on the ski field.
the cost for some of these fields means you can buy a season pass for what a one day ski pass can cost, and you get a wide variety in terrain, and meet a lot of friendly Kiwis rather than lots of internationals, who all appear the same after a while.
I ski regularily at Porter heights which has all the facilities of the large ski fields , but is fully commercial.
A horror bus ride, skidding down a ski resort mountain road.
