Snow skiing late April in Colorado?
I’m planning on traveling to Denver co area in late April. I want to go snow sking while i’m out there. Looks like my options for open ski resorts is limited. A basin or Loveland look like the closest options. Anybody know of a different ski area? I’m not the best skier so I’m just looking for some nice runs nothing extreem. Thanks
You’ve picked the two best areas to try in late April but they may not be open. They are both right on the Continental Divide & they have the highest elevation. That means they will their snow last since it’s colder at higher elevations. Also, these two areas always get about the most snow. They’re also very close to Denver {about a 1 hr. drive}.
If I were you, I would try Loveland first since they have more skiable acres, more runs & more lifts. The lodging is also much better here unless you’re commuting daily from Denver.
A-Basin has no lodging & one other important thing is that they have mostly expert runs. If you’re not a good expert skier than I would go to Loveland. Loveland has plenty of expert ski runs but they also have much more variety.
Both areas have their own websites & you should check their websites for ski conditions & closing dates. The websites always give the snow base in feet & inches. They give the current weather & usually a closing date at this time of yr. Check their website for a phone number; some even have a toll free number. GOOD LUCK & you may do alright in late April, this yr., since they’ve had a record snow.
