Advice on buying skis?
I want to buy skis and I’m going to a ski shop but I don’t want to get ripped off. I just want a good pair for a reasonable price. I’m a decent skier but have always rented skis and i realized it would be cheaper to buy a pair. I ski probably 5-7 days out of the year. Any advice on brands or what to look for? Skis, bindings, boots! All mountain or Carving?
I usually ski in the Wisconsin/Michigan area so nothing too intense but I hope to go out to Colorado with my new skis! I don’t do jumps but I’ll go over moguls…
I’m looking in a magazine…are Vokl Attavia AC skis any good?
Thanks!
Let’s say you pick up a ski package for $500. The average price for rentals is $35…most places. It would take you 14 days to make up the cost.
If you only ski 5-7 days a year do you think the $500 pair of skis will still be what you want in 2-3 years?
I also RARELY take my skis when I travel unless I’m going by car. I take my ski boots, but why do you want to deal with checking skis at the airport when you can drop $35 at the ski shop and get a set of good demos when you are on your trip? I love skiing on Demo skis. I don’t have to worry about the rocks? I don’t have to wax them when I’m done, and I get to ski on a different ski than what I ski on every other day of the week. It’s great.
Most of your performance issues lie in the boot. Spend the bucks on that…but only if you know your shoe size isn’t going to change soon.
