Cross country skiing and sledding are the next two winter activities on our top ten of Snowmass. Both provide a great workout while appeasing to the outdoor eye.
7. Cross Country Skiing
There’s more than one way to enjoy the slippery stuff! Cross country skiing is a wonderful way to see what Snowmass has to offer, and is a favorite to those savvy enough to own their own Aspen homes. In so many locations throughout Snowmass, a huge network of ski trails is available right outside your front door.
The Aspen Snowmass Nordic Trail System offers trail users over 90 kilometers of free cross country ski and snowshoe trails, connecting the communities of Aspen, Snowmass and Basalt. With two full service cross-country ski centers, the Aspen Snowmass Nordic Trail System offers a combination of both varied, entertaining ski trails and amazing vistas. 8. Sledding.
Sledding is an adventure anywhere with snow, but it’s especially fun in the Aspen area. There are many little local’s hills all over Snowmass, and if you head into Aspen, there is a dedicated sledding hill at the Aspen Recreation Center on Maroon Creek Road. You can rent sleds from the ARC, or you can purchase all kinds of things to slide on, like a Swiss Bob, or a saucer, at any one of the retail stores at the Snowmass Village Mall or Base Village.
